Nutrition Program Recap

 Hi Swim & Dive Families,

On Monday, the team listened to a presentation by Hannah Brillowski, a Dietitian Intern at UWGB.  Hannah did a fantastic job talking to the team about proper nutrition and the importance of good food choices for athletes.  The girls asked if I would post copies of her slideshow. You can click on any of the images to make them larger.

SPASH Panther Relay Champions!

Yesterday we loaded up a bus and headed over to Stevens Point for the SPASH Panther Relays.
The Panther Relays are always fun--who doesn't like swimming on a relay?  There's nothing like being part of a group of swimmers all working toward the same goal.
After a quick warm-up there was a bit of time to just hang out.

The girls had no problem sharing the gym with the volleyball team.
In fact, it kind of looked like they moved in and made themselves right at home.  : )
Once the meet got going, the Rockets swam their hearts out.  There was a whole bunch of really fast swimming going on yesterday.

And after all of those fast swims, we left as meet champions.  Congratulations, ladies!  We are so proud of you!

Athletes of the Week!

Each week we choose three athletes who stand out or contribute to the team in a special way.  The girls are given a pink "Athlete of the Week" cap, and their picture is displayed by the pool office.  This year, we thought it would be fun if we displayed their pictures on the blog, as well.

Congratulations to this week's Athletes of the Week:
Abby Hollub
Ashley Hermans
Malena Waters

Congratulations, Triathletes!!

Congratulations to Abby Hollub, who won this year's NHS Swim & Dive triathlon (for the second year in a row!), and the rest of our Top Ten finishers:  Karly Jackson, Lauren Penn, Ashley Hermans, Laura Setton, CeCe Krause, Emily Martis, Hannah Houston, Lindsey Coons, Rachel Resch and Kiki Rice.  You guys did an AWESOME job today!

We'd also like to give a big shout out to all of the ladies who finished in under an hour:
The Top Ten plus:  Leeah Eisch, Juila Harvath, Emily Strey, Emily Morris, Hannah Sisto, Amy Blossom, Caitlin Miller, and Emily Terlap.  Way to go, Ladies!!

I also want to mention that the first two out of the water happened to be divers!!  They finished the swim and then hopped on a tandem bicycle (loved it!):

I am happy to report that every single swimmer and diver completed this year's triathlon! That is amazing!   Coach Raeth and I are incredibly proud of each of you!

NHS Swim and Dive Parents are THE BEST!!

Hi Swim & Dive Families!

Holy cow!  This year's triathlon was a HUGE success--thanks to all of the moms, dads, and sisters who came out to help make everything go smoothly this morning!  Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of you who counted swim laps, helped in the transition areas, stood on street corners and cheered on the bikers (and pointed them all in the right direction), drove the route, and helped cheer our runners on over at the track.  We absolutely could not have done this without your help!
I know the girls had fun (whether they admit it or not), and for the first time in years, not a single person got lost on the bike route!  : )
I hope you all had as much fun as I did watching the girls challenge themselves this morning.
Hooray for a team full of fabulous girls who all have such amazing, helpful parents!

Thank you!!

2013 NHS Swim & Dive Triathlon!

Hi Swim & Dive Families,

Thank you to each and every one of you who signed up to help with Wednesday's big team triathlon.  We absolutely could not do the triathlon without your support.  I just know this year's triathlon is going to be the best one yet, because we have amazing parent support this year!  Here's all the details:

All swimmers/divers should check in their bikes & helmets by 7:55 (before team pictures). Volunteers will be on hand to help fill tires, if needed.  Once the athletes have checked in, they can go in and set up their clothes/shoes, etc. on the bleachers.  Team pictures will take place at 8:00 am.  There will be a brief volunteer meeting at 8:30 by the bleachers.

Swimmers will swim 1,000 yards, and divers & new swimmers will swim 500 yards (or the whole 1,000 if they want!).  Right after the swim, athletes will head over to the bleachers to get dressed before they head out to their bikes.  The bike route is pictured below.  Volunteers will be stationed at each and every turn.  Athletes should NOT take a turn on the bike route unless they see a volunteer.  The bike route finishes on the path that runs along the backside of the football field and track.  Athletes should enter the track at the southwest corner.  There will be a volunteer there to help direct traffic.  Athletes should leave their bike inside the gate and head over to the track to start the run.  Runners will need to collect 3 Popsicle sticks from Coach Raeth's dad (one each time you go around the track).  After the fourth lap, athletes need to give their Popsicle sticks back to a volunteer then pick up their bikes.  Athletes will then ride down the street between the track and the pool and go around the pool to the bike racks where they will park their bike.  All athletes need to run through the side door into the pool (past Coach Raeth) to the finish line.  Then they can jump in the pool to cool off and celebrate their big finish!

Bike Route:
Turn right out of the parking lot onto Apple Blossom.  Take Apple Blossom to Alpine Lane.  Turn left on Alpine Lane.  Take Alpine to Breezewood.  Turn right onto Breezewood.  Take Breezewood to Pendleton Road.  Turn left onto Pendleton Road.  Take Pendleton to County Road G.  Turn right onto County Road G.  Take "G" to Woodenshoe Road.  Turn right onto Woodenshoe Road.  Take Woodenshoe to Woods Edge.  Turn right onto Woods Edge.  Take Woods Edge to Winneconne/County Road JJ.  Turn right onto Winneconne/County Road JJ.  Take Winneconne/ County Road JJ to Babcock Street.  Turn right onto Babcock to Cecil. Take Cecil to Stuart, turn left onto Stuart. Take Stuart to Gay, and turn left onto Gay.  The trail runs alongside the parking lot.  Take the trail to the southwest corner of the football field.

Car Wash Fun!

 Hi Swim & Dive Families!

The whole team would like to say a big "THANK YOU!!" to the Resch family for all they did to help make today's car wash such a HUGE success!  Thank you for letting us use the Schubbe-Resch parking lot, your hoses, and water.  Your parking lot is the perfect location for a car wash!
The whole team had fun washing cars and dancing in the parking lot.
We managed to have bring in a ton of customers, even with the Vintage car wash going on at the same time--right down the road!

Thank you, also, to all of the parents, families, and friends who came out to support the team.  We really appreciated you stopping by!
We washed a whole lot of parent vehicles:

We will announce the grand total at Monday morning's practice.  All proceeds will be divided evenly among the girls who worked and applied to their optional clothing costs.

Great job today, ladies!

Mandatory Fees/Costs:

$60 team suit, paid --due August 19th
$15 goes toward hosted meet meals & team breakfasts--due August 19th
$5 GAIN fee--due August 19th

Total:  $88.  Please bring a check made out to NHS to the parent meeting/potluck on August 19th

Optional Costs*:

$30 warm-up jacket (+ $3 if you want your name embroidered on it)
additional team shorts (cost to be determined)
team sweatpants (cost to be determined)
team pictures--$10 and up, depending on the package you pick

**money raised at the team car wash will be credited toward your optional clothing costs

Each swimmer will be responsible for providing their own goggles, practice suit, dryland clothing and shoes, and practice towel.

As a member of the NHS Swim & Dive team, you will receive a lock, team jacket, team backpack, water bottle, team cap, team parka, team shorts, and team towel.  All equipment is checked out at the beginning of the season and must be turned back in on the last day.  You will be responsible for paying for any lost or damaged equipment.

I hope that answers all of your questions regarding fees and costs.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Coach Raeth or myself.

Thanks,

Coach Vicki
